The largest religion is Christianity (56.2%). The other main religions are atheists and spiritists. Of those, 11.34% are Evangelical Christian.
Even though the leadership has changed, churches in Cuba still face unrelenting pressure from the government. The communist government views Christianity as a threat.

The leadership remains committed to communist ideology. It views churches as a threat. Most Christians have to meet in illegal church houses or shaded structures. Cuba is rated 37 in the persecution ranking.
